Problems
with the aero position
The near horizontal chest-to-knees ‘aero position’ adopted
by comp etitive cyclists to combat the effects of wind
resistance may actually be disadvantageous to less
experienced cyclists. A study of 10 young men who were
unfamiliar with aerobars found they achieved greater
efficiency in the upright position – probably because it takes
training and adaptation to optimise performance using aerobars.
Think also about the added weight and increased air
resistance of the bars. If your pedalling efficiency is
reduced, is it worth having them at all? |
