Using the table below look up your age
to find the NEW predicted maximum pulse rate figure.
You can also see the error that the old "220-age" calculation would cause
if used.
Around 10-15% of
athletes will be able to exceed the calculated "max" by 10 to 20 beats
(30 in some rare cases). You are therefore a "High Beater" meaning you HR
has ther ability to
beat faster than your peers - it's neither good nor bad just "you". Be
sure to add in the error
(e.g. add 15 beats to zones) to ensure you train at the correct level.
If you cannot exeed the age related max but find you easily train above
the aerobic "base"
level you are aerobically "immature" and need to slow down and wait for
fitness to build.
For reference the calculation is: 205.8 - (0.685 x age) - taken from Inbar
et al. [1994]
Aerobic Base calculation can also be found using: ((HRmax-HRrest) x 0.7) +
HRrest
Anaerobic Quality calculation can also be found using: ((HRmax-HRrest) x
0.8 to 0.9) + HRrest
